Day 1 : Hue – Dong Hoi (L,D)
AM : Pick up at Hue airport/railway station. Drive North and visit La Vang Catheral (whichdespite it’s years of turmoil remains an important pilgrimage site for Vietnam’s Catholics). Continuing with Quang Tri Citadel, where had a fierce battle lasted 81 days in 1972. Up to highway 1 across the Hien Luong Bridge and over the Ben Hai River- the 17th Parallel, which demarcated North & South Vietnam.- One of the heaviest fighting during the war.
Visit Truong Son National Cemetary- remains over 15,000 Vietnamese solders & civilian who had been laid to rest. Some of tombstones bear sadly no name. Lunch en rout.
Moving to Vinh Moc Tunnel, pas through quaint villages & skirt along Cua Tung Beach.
In oder to escape the bombardment, the village construct approximately 2,8km of underground tunnels which they used as a refuge to survice the bombings during the American war. In 1966-1971, 300 people lived intermittently in these tunnels
Driving to Dong Hoi. Have dinnner & spend night here.
Day 2 : Dong Hoi – Hue (L,D)
Breakfast. Depart to Phong Nha National Park - World Natural Heritage - One of the world’s two largest limesstone region. Take a boat on the Son river for 1,5km to a large of numbers grottoes and caves. Total with 20 caves length of 70 km.
Continue south to Khe Sanh- the most imporrtant battles of Vietnam war took place, the former base had bunkers , helicopters and museum on display.. Along the way, passing the Dakrong Bridge, where access point once ran into the Ho Chi Minh trail. Back to Hue in the early evening.
